Frequently Asked Questions
Are your candles natural?
Our candles are toxic free and only contain Coconut Wax and Pure Essential Oils. The wick is made from eco cotton for a clean burn. They are suitable for Vegans - we do not test on animals and the ingredients we use are also cruelty free. They are as natural as I could possibly make them!
How do I look after my candle?
I have put together some of my top candle tips to improve the quality of your candle burn and explain some safety guidelines:
1) Trim your wick! Before lighting - ensure your wick is trimmed sown to at least 5mm - you can use a fancy wick trimmer or take off excess wick with fingers (make sure candle is not hot).
2) When lighting your candle for the first time, allow the wax pool to fully melt to the edge of the vessel before blowing out. Wax has memory and will "tunnel" on the next burn.
3) Please do not light your candle for more than 4 hours at a time - although our containers are specifically made for candle heat, it could still be a fire risk if the container gets too hot.
4) As always never leave your candle unattended, keep on a heatproof surface and keep away from children and pets.
How long is the burn time on your candles?
Pure coconut wax burns slower and longer - even longer than soy wax (about 10-15% longer for the same volume.
I would give an approximate burn time of 40hrs for my 30cl candles. Its advisable to burn your candle away from draughts as a candle flame flicker can reduce burn time - and always trim your wick!
I am allergic to nuts - are coconut candles safe for me?
Coconuts are actually classified as a fruit of a palm tree. Coconut wax is produced by pressing the oil out of the coconut meat and goes through the process of hydrogenation. It is filtered and cleaned, giving you 100% natural and fully biodegradable wax.
Due to the coconut wax being consumed - it is not considered an allergen. However if you have any concerns please speak to a health advisor before purchasing.
Why are your candles expensive?
Of course, you can get cheaper candle from some mainstream brands - but do you know what is actually in them? Most likely cheap paraffin wax - a petroleum by-product which when burned releases compounds similar to what's found in diesel fumes. Yuck!
Coconut wax is considered a luxury product which burns cleaner than any other wax and is up there with being one of the most sustainable waxes on the market.
I only use premium and UK sourced essential oils. They are pure an natural and contain no synthetic scents - this means they are extremely expensive.
I source my labels locally in Hereford and I try to buy where I can from other small sustainable businesses. I am mindful with my packaging and use compostable mushroom protective packaging and all recyclable materials.
Why do you only use essential oils?
I know some people love the strong synthetic scents that remind you of your favourite perfumes. However the more I did my research on synthetic fragrances, the more I was adamant I would only use pure essential oils in my candles.
Did you know? - long term exposure to synthetic fragrances can cause serious health problems and illness. The most common immediate reactions are headaches, nausea, asthma, dizziness, allergy symptoms and respiratory tract irritation.
